The Struggle Eternal
The trauma of the Devastation and the subsequent rebirth of Life, during the Great Cold of the Second Age, led to a renewed recognition amongst the People of how much they owed to and relied upon the land and its creatures. And this change in the hearts of the People called back the ancient Gods of the land, and awoke the spirit of the Urthe.

The Urthe Mother, and her Consorts brought light and love to the land, but so too were the Dark Gods awakened, and they did whisper in the hearts and minds of many, tempting them, and many listened to their words, and did make war upon their kin.

Though the slaughter was terrible, yet did the People prevail, and the servants of the Dark Gods were cast down, and at the war's end, the Fourth Age dawned, and the People looked ahead, to a bright future safe in the Urthe's loving embrace.

But the Dark Gods chafed at their defeats, and regathered their forces, even from beyond the veil of death, and ere long did bring war once more, and this time the People were defeated, and the Urthe was plunged into a new Age of darkness and chaos.

And the voice of good was all but stilled, and few there were who strove to keep it alive in the centuries of fear and suffering that were to follow the Dark Gods ascendancy ...
