As a wild dwarf, originally from the jungles of Chult, Adoward is consequently somewhat smaller than his shield dwarven cousins. Often mistaken for a druid or ranger due to his intense connection with nature and excellent survival skills, he is actually neither.

Adoward first encountered the settlers of Freehold following the slavers' raid on the new village, shortly after its founding. When Lysander Arkaine, Samuel Fisher, and Ash Nahcomence tracked the fleeing gnoll forces to the wreckage of a Mulhorandi caravan the beastmen had recently ransacked, Adoward was already approaching from the north, and met the others in time to witness the magical escape of the remaining gnoll. Motivated by both the opportunity to battle evil creatures and the chance to be a part of the burgeoning frontier settlement, Adoward accompanied the Freeholders home, first on a trial basis, and later deciding to stay.

When the expedition left for the distant northeastern iron mines, Adoward was recruited to come along. Though he proved an asset to the excursion force in their tumultuous struggle with the Savras-worshipping stingers encountered along the way, he later drew the ire of Lysander Arkaine and Nitis Nochan, among others, for nearly provoking Hrrlak's people into a fight during opening negotiations, due to his impulsiveness and inability to speak the orcish language. As a result, the dwarf refused to enter the mines, preferring to remain outside for the duration of their stay.

Along with Samuel Fisher and Ash Nahcomence, it was Adoward who discovered and slew the witch in the western woodlands near Freehold, and later, rescued the orphaned spectral panther Shedim Kun after an alchemagical trap killed her mother in the ruins of Xiltor, south of the Liontongue River. The dwarf adopted the magical beast as his companion, hoping to train her as a mount, and despite Adoward's stubborn insubordination the pair proved to be of great assistance and value as members of the team sent to kill Kejujuhwa.

Originally a PC, Adoward was converted to an influential NPC when his player retired 10 July, 2014.
