An unfortunate prisoner of the Ghauwffhwa along with Greiz and Ssarissuss, Lukas was at least lucky enough to have suffered the shortest durance out of all the gnolls' then-current slaves. Captured while camping at the edge of the Sharawood, the young man was forced into the pens to labor alongside the rest of the disillusioned and battered victims there, building fortifications and mucking out the beastmen's vile slop heap—though he blessedly escaped assignment to Kejujuhwa's temple.

Two attempts to make a break from his internment in the first week at Ghauwffhwar earned Lukas several savage beatings, and but for the care of his erstwhile compatriots in the pens, he might not have survived. Afterward, he fought with their gnollish captors more to protect others, like Mwrr and Tombe, than to effect freedom. By the time Councilors Lysander Arkaine and Shara Graye arrived on their grave mission to dispose of Kejujuhwa, Lukas was a former shell of the man he had been, bruised and abused such that he could barely bring himself to sing—which he did on occasion, but softly, so as not to draw the attention of his vengeful wardens. The Freeholders' intrusion, however, galvanized the slaves with hope, and so it was that Lukas found himself drawn into the tense confrontation with Kejujuhwa after Trendal Kingshand refused to leave the gnolls' prisoners behind.

Following the death of the shaman and his lieutenants, and the group's subsequent withdrawal from Ghauwffhwar, Lukas had his sword and armor returned to him from the vault of Wrorgk "One-Eye," and was committed to the Kingshand Clinic and Infirmary—along with his fellows—for long-term treatment of malnourishment, exposure, violence, and trauma. He was not down for long, however, volunteering to serve part-time in the Freehold Guard as soon as he was healthy again.

His assistance proved more than useful when, not long after, the Liontongue River was polluted by a kobold mining operation. Lukas joined Councilor Lysander Arkaine and several others on an expedition to locate the source of the taint and cleanse the village water supply, only to discover a group of kobolds had moved into a subterranean ruin directly below their feet. Despite shattering his borrowed bow in their first clash with the interlopers, Lukas's help was crucial when he and Abae Khon desperately jury-rigged the ancient mechanisms of the ruins to attack the kobolds' leader rather than the Freeholders. Though severely affected by blightburn, he managed to make it safely back with the rest of the party and has since shown a vested interest in uncovering precisely what their adversaries were doing, down there.
