Greiz came to Freehold through serendipity, when the task force sent to kill Ghauwffhwa leader Kejujuhwa discovered him in the gnolls' slave pens along with Lukas Cale and a few others. The newest of the Ghauwffhwa's captives, at that time, Greiz's cocksure mien won him few friends among his fellow captives, which wasn't helped by the fact that he was one of only two among them unable to speak some dialect of Shaaran (although the wizard Ssarissuss dutifully translated when communication was necessary). The tiefling did eventually pick up a few words in the indigenous tongue, however, as well as some of the gnolls' language—most notably "work" and "faster."

Initially bitter and defiant toward his captors, Greiz nonetheless grudgingly scaled back his rebellious attitude after realizing it resulted in extra punishments for his fellow prisoners, too; not really a bad person, he negotiated an uneasy truce with himself regarding the Ghauwffhwa, though he remained resolved to get his revenge when he could. When Adoward Beastfriend discovered the slaves during reconnaissance, Greiz was eager to get free and help the Freeholders do some damage. Following the confrontation with Kejujuhwa, Lysander Arkaine discovered the tiefling's possessions in the gnolls' vault, which included his signature weapon: An enchanted adamantine greatsword sized for a giant.

Since his arrival in Freehold, Greiz has demonstrated a carefree and joie de vivre demeanor that conceals a surprisingly gentle heart. Claiming to have come originally from Waterdeep—where he was an odd-job man and vocal proponent of "slag music"—the tiefling adopts a relaxed attitude toward the assumptions inspired by his massive strength, seeming at ease with others' perceptions of him as a musclebound fool even as he casually makes himself helpful around the village as thanks for his rescue. His most recent employment is in construction, both by the First Freehold Council and by Lord Aram Lazard, following his part in the expedition to deal with the fracking kobolds who poisoned the Liontongue River.
