Originally from the Elemental Plane of Water, Abae was kidnapped by a Rashemi wizard who needed him to undo the traps laid in the Ashenwood by his the genasi's human mother, decades before. After two years of labor there, he managed to escape his enslavement and set off on a quest to explore the strange, non-aquatic world in which he found himself. Along the way, he befriended a Tuigan druid who helped him get to Unther, far from his captors, and thence to Chavyondat in Estagund. Unfortunately, it was there, near the Curna Mountains, that Abae ran afoul of a rakshasa hunting party in search of sport; fleeing northward, he swam the Liontongue River and found himself in Freehold.

At first both an oddity and a stranger to the village, it took the genasi some time to settle in, but his help turned out to be critical when the settlement's water supply was poisoned by kobolds. Along with Trendal Kingshand's mother, Belle, he used his alchemical expertise to determine the pollution in the river was an artificial mining lubricant for machinery, such as dwarves have. When the source of the taint was traced to the aquifer, Abae joined Councilor Lysander Arkaine and several others on an expedition to find a way underground and stop the contamination.

When met with the numerous traps of the kobolds there, the group found Abae instrumental in making progress through the tunnels where the intruders had been fracking. It was also the genasi who figured out a way to turn some of the eldritch ruins' defenses back upon the kobolds' terrifying leader, and later assisted the wizard Ssarissuss in manipulating the place's mysterious forges into creating armor that protected the party from the awful blightburn saturating the complex. Abae and the hydromancer became fast friends after the experience, and the alchemist is currently teaching his art to his new comrade in exchange for lessons in the language of dragons.

Originally a PC, Abae was converted to an influential NPC when his player retired 19 August, 2016.
