The Province of Shasta, Fourth Age

Shasta juts out into the Birnam Sea, and has several beaches, grassy plains, miles of deciduous forests where trees such as Oak, Elm and Yew are to be found in abundance. It is bordered to the east by the Bala mountains, and has a wealth of free flowing rivers such as the Isk, the Snake, the Rondor, the Leaf, the Stoney and the Bala, which flows from the hills to form a huge lake before continuing on to the sea.

To the North of the province lie the frozen wastes of the Northlands, home of tribes of barbarians who are nominally allied to the Empire; South heads towards more populated areas and (eventually) the heart of the Empire. To the West is the Isle of Kyme, a lawless place, and thence the open seas. To the immediate East is fairly rugged terrain (hills, mountains swamps etc); further East trading towns lie on the banks of a wide river mouth, safe ports for the treacherous passage ... and beyond that the terrain becomes even harsher and there the Lost Kin dwell, nursing their hatred.

There are two major cities in the region, both grown from military fortifications, as evidenced by their straight streets: Kalibar, older by far, lies to the South of the province, a thriving port and the gateway to the region; Iskbridge, the fairer of the two; centrally located betwixt the gold mine at Rocky Gap, the fishing village at Tyrne, the farming community at Oakford and the new port of Merton, currently under construction.
