The Six Great Villages
Iwagakure (Village Hidden by Rocks) lies in the Land of Earth and is among the Six Villages. Their specialities are earth release techniques and fanatic obedience to the Tsuchikage.

Kirigakure (Village Hidden by Mist) lies in the Land of Water, and is one of the Six Villages. The village favours water release techniques. It is also home to the Aotatsu Dragon Shrine and long ago the Seven Ninja Swordsmen of the Mist.

Konohagakure (Village Hidden in Leaves) is located in the Land of Fire and is one of the Six Villages.

Kumogakure (Village Hidden in the Clouds) lies in the Land of Lightning, and is one of the Six Villages. Most shinobi of this village seem to have a natural affinity for Lightning Release nature transformation. Nintaijutsu, and kenjutsu are also promoted as preferred fighting styles in this village.

Sunagakure (Village Hidden in Sand) is in the desert of the Land of Wind, and is one of the Six Villages. This is the home of puppet jutsu and the cloth-binding technique.

Otogakure (Village Hidden by Sound) lies in the Land of Music. It is the newest member of the Six Villages and home of the Ongakukage. All of its shinobi learn to play a musical instrument even if it is not used for sound-based ninjutsu.



Active Ninja Villages
Amegakure (Village Hidden by Rain) is located in the Land of Storms*, between the Land of Rivers and the Land of Earth. There are many ninja from this village who are skilled genjutsu users.

Hoshigakure (Village Hidden among Stars) is located in the Land of Bears and was founded at the site of a meteor fall by the "First Hoshikage". This title has never been officially recognised outside of the village. Training with the fallen 'star' Hoshigakure ninja are able to develop enormous amounts of chakra and can concentrate it into forms solid enough to form shields and even wings. Ishigakure (Village Hidden in Stones) is located the Land of Beasts* between the Land of Earth and the Land of Wind.

Kusagakure (Village Hidden in the Grass) is located in the Land of Trees* on the border of the Land of Fire. Kusagakure is skilled in diplomacy, a trait they constantly use to read the movements of other countries and stay one step ahead of them. They also analyse techniques from other villages in a similar manner. Because of these principles others find it hard to read the shinobi from this village's attitudes.

Moyagakure (Village Hidden in the Haze) is located in the Land of Kyojin* between the Land of Music and the Land of Waterfalls*. (anime filler village.)

Shimogakure (Village Hidden in Frost) is located in is located in the Land of Frost, between the Lands of Hot Water and Lightning. During the 4th World War, the villagers were relocated to Konohagakure. The Yukimura clan did not return to their homeland afterward, instead remaining in Konoha.

Takigakure (Village Hidden by a Waterfall) is in the Land of Waterfalls*. This is the home of the sacred Hero Water, produced only once every hundred years, and Kakuzu's Earth Grudge Fear kinjutsu.

Tanigakure (Village Hidden in Valleys) is located in the Land of Rivers, which stands between the Land of Wind and the Land of Fire. This country is also the home of Takumi Village: Village of Artisans.

Yoakegakure (Village Hidden in the Dawn) is located in the Land of Wind. This mysterious village appears to be newly founded and has yet to establish a reputation. OC Village

Yukidokegakure (Village Hidden Among Melted Snow) was previously known as Yukigakure and is located in the Land of Spring (also formerly known as the Land of Snow, situated to the East of the Land of Water*). The village specialises in complex machinery and medical jutsu based on their rare plant-life. (movie village: "Naruto the Movie: Ninja Clash in the Land of Snow".)

Yumegakure (Village Hidden Among Dreams) is located in a small country bordering on the Land of Fire. Their signature jutsus are powerful combat-oriented versions of the Transformation Technique. (game village: "Naruto Shippūden: Kizuna Drive".)



Inactive Villages


Asahigakure (Village Hidden by the Rising Sun) was a village located somewhere in the Land of Wind. The village retired, or was destroyed, during the time of the 2nd Kazekage. (OC village)

Getsugakure (Village Hidden under the Moon) was located in the Land of the Moon (between the Land of Wind and the Land of Earth*) and destroyed some time after the 4th World War. It is believed by many that the extinction of the two villages bearing the title Village of the Hidden Moon eliminated each other, though this has never been confirmed. (movie village: "Naruto the Movie 3: Guardians of the Crescent Moon Kingdom.")

Tsukigakure (Village Hidden under the Moon) was destroyed some time after the 4th World War, or was presumed to be. It's location is unknown and no contact has been received in generations. (game village: "Naruto Shippūden: Ultimate Ninja Heroes 3".)

Uzushiogakure (Village Hidden by Whirling Tides) was a village in the Land of Whirlpools off the coast of the Land of Fire. Its ninja were renowned for their fūinjutsu to the point that it led to its destruction in war. Those who survived the village's destruction scattered across the globe to seek refuge.

Yugakure (Village Hidden in Hot Water) is a small village in the Land of Hot Water, between the Land of Fire and the Land of Frost. It retired as a ninja village before the time of 4th World War.
