Home Upgrades

Once you have built a home, you can add a number of standard upgrades.  Some add to your home security, others add a touch of luxury, extra facilities or better services.  These can all be paid for with Gold or Building Credits.

Upgrades that effect a large portion of the property, rather than  adding a new room, are charged at a percentage of your property's value.

External Strengthening Costs 10% - Stronger external doors, locks and shutters.  Internal building components remain as standard.

Internal Strengthening Cost 10% - you get good locks and doors on all  of your main rooms.

Furnishings Cost 10% -  Home come with a fairly basic standard of furnishing,  However, for 10% of the cost, you can upgrade the levels of comfort and presentation in the main rooms.  You can either take an automatic upgrade, or you can RP out a shopping trip with the traders.

Luxury Furnishings Cost 20% -  If you have already upgraded your furnishings, you can add a bit of luxury to your main rooms.  You can either take an automatic upgrade, or you can RP out a shopping trip with the traders.

Craft Workshop cost 420gp - This workshop and storage facility serves as  Masterwork tools for one (mundane) craft skill and comes with a PT assistant who can Assist Another automatically.  You can specify the Craft Skill.  You may add multiple craft workshops, BUT you may only have one workshop per skill.  This upgrade gives a small, background, income (once per RL calendar year) from work that your assistants do.   NOTE:  A Home can only get income from two craft workshops (of either type), unless you are one of the recognised traders.

Arcane Workshop  Cost 480gp - also known as an Artisan’s workshop, it allows you to create magic Items.  It counts as Masterwork tools for one Item Creation skill and comes with a PT assistant who can Assist Another automatically.

Extra Lodgings  Cost 480gp - Large homes/schools only - built into the roofspace and can accommdate five extra servants, footmen, equerries or followers OR  three senior servants OR two aides.  You need to pay for the extra staff seperately.

Other Upgrades - These are the upgrades that I think will be most popular, however, other types of upgrade, such as adding an Altar or  Scriptorium, are availaable on discussion with the DM.

Most of this list will move to the fortification section

Security Upgrades

Note: You may only buy these upgrades once per home or (in the case of Internal Fortifications) once per room.

Small Barracks 630gp -  This small building provides accommodation and equipment for a unit of five house guards. They are L1 warriors, with Leather Armour, Buckler and Long Spear.  They stand guard at your doors, patrol your perimeter, and deal with intruders.  When employed alongside Footmen or Body Guards, they make an effective security force.  This represents a small upgrade to your house and defences.  It may be upgraded to a Large Barracks, with a 630gp discount.

Internal Fortification Cost 300gp per room - better locks, internal doors etc.

Note:  The costs of the following upgrades vary, according to the size of your property.  Adding new buildings after these upgrades, could push the new upgrades costs up.  You can, however, create extra space (by buying extra walls)  before you buy the upgrades.

Defensive Wall Costs vary - 1xlength of wall (260gp) for each 1000gp (or part thereof) value of your property and staff.

Fortification Costs vary - Stronger external doors, locks and shutters, cost (300gp) for each 1000gp (or part thereof) value of your property and staff.  Internal building components remain as standard.

Crafting Upgrades

Craft Workshop cost 420gp - This workshop and storage facility serves as  Masterwork tools for one craft skill and comes with a PT assistant who can Assist Another automatically.  You can specify the Craft Skill.  You may add multiple craft workshops, BUT you may only have one workshop per skill.

If you do not have a craft skill, you may still add a workshop for the basic services that it provides.  For example, just about ever castle had a Forge and Blacksmith, even if the Lord didn't know one end of a hammer from the other.  In this case, the workshop will generate a basic income, but it won't be able to make specific items for you.

Religious Upgrades

Chapel Cost 720gp - A simple chapel with a Common Room, where people gather for service, an Altar and a Sanctum, to serve as the Priest's office.   Any divine caster can oversee services, and there is always an adapt-1 available to conduct simple services if you are not available (or not a divine caster).  Unless you have some residential space available in your home, this will be a visiting pastor who only visits occasionally, to run a basic service.

Note:  A Chapel has a Public Altar, Homes have a Private Altar.  If you add a chapel to a home that already has an Altar, you keep both.

Military Upgrades

The following upgrades all have prerequisites that must be met, before they are installed.  However, installing them can turn your home into a small castle.

Large Barracks Cost 4000gp - This comes with a Sergeant and 20x Guards, along with armouries, practice grounds, facilities for feeding the troops, etc.   This represents a major military investment, and is only available to characters with a Mêlée class and at least one point in Profession:Soldier.   If you do not meet those criteria, you may employ a Lieutenant (Warrior-3) to take command of your forces, although that will cost an extra 500gp.

Walkable Walls  Costs Vary -  You must have added the Defensive Walls and a Large Barracks before this option is available.  It costs 320gp for each 1000gp (or part thereof) value of your property and staff.  However, you can mount a wall patrol, and starts to turn your house into a castle.

Gate House Cost 630gp - adds extra security and control to the entrance to your castle/estate.  You must have defensive walls and a barracks (small or large) before you can add this upgrade.  The gatehouse comes with a strong wooden door, but can be upgraded.  Iron door, 500gp; Wooden Portcullis, 500 gp; Iron Portcullis, 1000gp.
