Golden Gate
Almost destroyed by a T-55 during the PACT siege of Gdansk in early August, the Golden Gate stands as a stark reminder of Gdansk's will to survive. Now marked by fire and bullet pockmarks, the Golden Gate is a beautiful piece of architecture in the style of Dutch mannerism (late renaissance). It's situated at the end of Dluga (Long) Street, and served as a part of the city's defensive structures in centuries past. There is an inscription on the gate which reads: Es müsse wohl gehen denen, die dich lieben. Es müsse Friede sein inwendig in deinen Mauern und Glück in deinen Palästen ("They shall prosper that love thee. Peace be within thy walls, and prosperity within thy palaces."
