- The team heads into a new makeshift base in the city at the north end of Wyspa Spichrzow, thanks to the IB. Presumably they left the White Fiat and Trailer with small still at the school.
- JJM, Rawlinson and Pearce go to meet the local commander at Tarawa Co. Meanwhile at the billet, Henry Jordan pisses off Varis one last time, and they get into a fistfight. Varis takes Jordan fairly easily. Kurt breaks ‘em up.
- JJM goes to meet with the IB (HQ positions at Tarawa Co [Capt. Thomas], Waterloo Co [Hauptmann Woermann], and Normandy Co. Maj. Webb) and learns the plan for the defense of the city.
- Some PCs go to the solidarity market for ammo and supplies.
2nd Engagement at Chelm
Others (Stone, Friedmann, Kaminski, and Handley ) take the Humvee to go to salvage more from the dead Bradley (same one they took a wheel from previously in Chelm). This group encounters Soviets in 2 UAZs and a 5 ton truck, directly after getting the needed parts. Stone takes a gnarly leg shot while the group makes their escape back to the billet. He then gets dropped off at the hospital.
Meanwhile at the billet, the troops rearm and rest up, preparing last strategies before the large Russian attack.
Dr. Ruit stops by, and the group learns that Stone will be okay, but lost a lot of blood and it will be awhile before he’s able to rejoin the group.
The PACT Siege of Gdansk officially begins
- Pearce relays a new mission profile from IB HQ. The unit then heads west toward Nowe Ogrody with two specific tasks. First, break a holding force on the way to Nowe Ogrody. Second, push on to the suburb and reinforce the units there. Tertiary objective it to clear an FO position on a hill nearby at Fort Grodzisko. The Fort overseas a large section of the city, particularly the areas where the main battles will be taking place. The group heads out in the captured BTR, the Bradley, and the M113.
2nd Engagement at Gdansk
On the way, an engagement takes place. One BTR, one BRDM with missile launchers. 3 squads of foot mobiles. They ambush the PCs and gang members. One gang member dies. One is shot through the thigh. One routs. Fox takes a light hit to the chest. The PC team returns fire, cutting into the soviets. Volodnya takes a leg hit. Another gang member gets shot in the chest.
The M113 throws a track, and the hulk down vehicle lands a round in the M113’s M2HB, putting it out of action and slicing up Robert Mitchell’s face. The Bradley then chews up the enemy BTR.
The soviet unit, after some additional casualties, breaks and runs.
The M113 is to have its stores moved to the other vehicles. Command says objective two is to break an opening for the now surrounded militia at Nowe Ogrody. The unit calls for Kaminski's BMP to be brought up (even though it's not really combat armed), and after quickly moving stores from the M113, then the 3 vehicles make for the new second objective.
1st Engagement at Fort Grodzisko
The players arrive at the tertiary objective, taking up position around the Napoleonic fort (Fort Grodzisko). It turns out that the fort housed a small community, which was promptly killed off by PACT special forces the night before. Andrew Rooke in the BMP takes a cosmetic gunshot to the arm. Another gang Anjo member dies. They kill a good squad’s worth of infantry (including finding an American working with the attacking force), then proceed to Nowe Ogrody proper.
Sightings of a T-80 and a Soviet BMP, JJM is tasked with going in on foot to contact the militia.
JJM and friends (Group 1 includes IB liaison Pearce and Anna, the girl the recce team saved earlier) go into the police station.
Group 2 stays with the unit vehicles to keep the back door open.
1st Engagement at Nowe Ogrody
Group 3 goes after the armor. Young takes a shot through his thigh. They put AT into the rear of the Soviet BMP and T-80, then return to their starting location.
New mission orders for JJM - pull Nowe Ogrody’s leader (Pavel Adamowicz) out of the Soviet noose, along with a seal sniper team (Sgt. Holt). There’s also a large civilian contingent that wants to get out with them – JJM instructs the exfil to use the sewers. They're helped by a local firefighter and Pavel's brother in law, Aleksandar Mazurek.
JJM goes to the sewers, the PC unit’s vehicles are under attack now from at least one Soviet BMP in their flank, ordered to make for St. Mary’s. Group 3 decides to head north to break out on foot. Jagelis orders Anjo’s men into the now overrun Police Station without support. Ben Jagelis struggles to make decisions under pressure and Oskar Friedmann leads Group 3 north.
Benucci takes a couple of minor wounds to legs from gunshots right before the breakout.
Tom Handley takes two hits when crossing the street.
Ben Jagelis takes a hit as well at the same time.
Bradley took a gun hit.
The unit’s BTR gets hit hard by the enemy force on their flank and rolls down an embankment, landing in an exposed position on the sunken railway track. Kaminski gets minor burns all over. His driver Otto is unconscious.
Tom Handley dies from his wounds. With his final words, Handley paraphrases Private Vasquez from the movie 'Aliens', and states: "You alway were an asshole, Ben."
1st Engagement at the Gdansk Train Station
Groups 2 and 3 regroup at the overturned BTR and Jagelis decides to have them try to right it. Meanwhile a Soviet BMP, two BTRs and infantry dismounts close in (this was the flanking force which presumably hit the unit's vehicles earlier). Ben still wants to save the BTR and orders Varis alone to kill the BMP with an RPG. Oskar, seeing the danger the entire group was in, chokes Jagelis out (!) and orders the group to move to exfil without the BTR. The Soviet BMP shoots and hits the PC’s BMP, killing one of Anjo’s gang members and killing him. Henry Jordan is driving, and is also hit badly. Oskar moves to drive the still functional BMP.
Methuselah A. Q. K. Agahu joins the party during the firefight, and the team extracts back to St. Mary's. It is learned that Agahu was in the area after being sent by IB command to figure out why no one from the fort was replying over comms. Krzysztof Kaminski and Otto are dropped off at St. Mary's for medical attention.
Group 1 regroups with the rest of the unit back together near the church (after escaping through the sewers, then they all head back to billet for a few hours before the next mission).
JJM starts an investigation into the Friedmann/Jagelis drama.
Varis drops the group’s moniker for the first time IC. McCarthy’s Mad dogs. Msg #833.
JJM’s investigation finishes. Oskar Friedmann gets busted to private. Ben Jagelis gets put in command of the Bradley and is no longer overseeing dismounted operations. No one likes it, but it’s a solid compromise.
Strategic update - 3 Soviet battalions are methodically pushing toward the city center. The 4th battalion (Poles) has been camped out across the bridge and haven’t made a serious assault on Tarawa’s position. Command thinks that the Poles simply don’t have the will to make a determined push.
Next mission comes in: Intel has it that the MU has some folks in leadership that want to defect to the PACT forces. The Mad Dogs are tasked with infiltrating the boat (the SS Soldek) with the traitors in MU leadership, and arrest them if possible, or eliminate them if not. The Soldek is positioned just north on Olowianka Island, directly across the river from the unit’s billet.
The unit decides to split into 4 groups for this mission.
1st Engagement at Olowianka Island
Group 1 (Catchings, Weiss, Pearce, Agahu, Babicevs, Meyer, Young) pretends to be bringing the MU supplies to their hotel via inflatable raft. Group 2 (Friedmann, Rooke, Mitchell, and Benucci) takes a water insertion onto the boat itself. Gang Anjo with Jagelis does an insertion from land, then moving onto the other end of the boat to prevent escape of the targets. JJM, St. Gil, Anna, and a squad from the IB will provide covering fire from the M2 and BMP from just north of the team’s billet on the unit’s side of the river.
Friedmann’s team subdues 7 MU members.
The mission proceeds in a straight-forward manner. Daylight is coming, things are looking well, and then the Polish (the battalion who was presumed not to have fight in them) attack in force and everything goes to hell. Oskar’s team does manage to bag the prisoners, however, and his team starts making their way back across the river.
