THE FINALS

This is a tough one. THE FINALS, in real life, is a free-to-play, cosmetics-only-microtransactions, no-pay-to-win, eSports title (or at least was as of May 2025).

In a grim, dark future an unknown number of years from now, the entire world is safe... for now. But that safety came at a cost, it seems.

That cost was reality. Somehow, some way, we have an advanced virtual world where all the people using it never actually leave. The sun may or may not be dying. The cause of all this may or may not be due to the Technological Singularity, often proposed in sci-fi like Orion's Arm. It's not really made clear what's happening, only that people are depressed by it and choose to stay out of meatspace because of it.

In this setting, a company called MultiCo. pulls all the strings. Every other "company" is in fact their subsidiary, every match rigged subtly by AI for maximum profit.

Oh, did we mention the second half of that above paragraph is true of the actual, real life game too? Yeah, it's fun but I don't play it thinking the matches are fair, so fair warning. LLMs ("real AI") will ruin things in that game if it keeps you playing longer and spending more cash.

As a result of public uproar or some other reason, the tech company (subsidiary) called Volpe has created a VR-based gameshow called "THE FINALS". Based on an apparent earlier game show of the same name that was hosted by "the rebellion" or some such, THE FINALS is a "TV show" and VR eSport that is one of the many popular games played in the virtual reality of the setting. Due to the fidelity of this VR, it is not known if any content that we've ever witnessed in THE FINALS lore (and it does somehow have very deep lore) is in meatspace, virtual reality, both, or even neither. Take everything it tells you about its' world with a grain of salt, it's in the best interests of MultiCo. to make sure you only see and hear what they want you to think.

While all corporations are MultiCo. in disguise, despite appearing to conflict with each other, there is one group that may be somewhat less certain...

We are C.N.S.

Change. *beat* The Game. *double beat*

Who is CNS? No one knows. They might be the rebellion, if they still exist. They might have been inspired by the rebellion and the nature of THE FINALS. Or they might be a smokescreen, a false flag designed to make even employees involved in the production of THE FINALS (who are of course MultiCo. employees) think that C.N.S. is real.

Alternatively, there is no "C.N.S". It's ''you''. Or rather, the unconscious Central Nervous System of the players of the game, rebelling and rejecting their VR equipment. Whether that's an unintentional rejection, or a realization that the MultiCo. hydra is a parasitic and corrupting influence is unknown too, if it even is the Central Nervous System causing these (admittedly far-fetched for a part of your mind that people are by definition unaware of) "hacks".

THE FINALS and CNS in ''Glitch Techs x RP''

MultiCo. is the world's second-largest corporation, after Poseidon Energy. It has subsidiaries in every industry, and only briefly (for a period of 2 months) was out-competed by Hinobi in the fields of electronics and gaming before the anti-monopoly breakups occurred.

Newly reinvigorated, MultiCo. has begun actively competing against as well as forming partnerships with Hinobi and Hollow Studios. Fortunately, the current environment of the setting of Glitch Techs x RP means no one company will be getting the upper hand any time soon.
