- The actual jump is performed at as close to zero velocity as possible. Coming out of jump, you have zero velocity with respect to the new star. Any excess velocity that can't be killed during jump come out as excess heat.
- Another exceedingly rare problem happens if two ships emerge into the same space. This causes an averaging of their elemental particles into a single substance, killing everybody on board. The ships are worthless even for salvage.
