Oxer
A bad joke masquerading as an obscure name the three floor bar and restaurant was once popular as a location for people who had travelled further afield to wager on the races to either celebrate or mourn on their return. After that it briefly fell into the hands of someone wildly optimistic about its future as a more quirky venue for performances alongside the food and drink served, whose influence is still seen in the various instruments located at points around the place left there as curiosity places for the final and current owner, an ex-jockey with a love for barbeque who ensured the menu matched their taste. Having heard about the place on retirement they went with the choice to run a hospitality business and are managing to do so surprisingly well thanks to a combination of reasonable prices, obsessive cleanliness and a no-nonsense approach to trouble that has seen more than a few people ejected at speed without the option to return on another day. Oxer's is borderline aggressively opposed to theme nights with the closest they come to such things being a one day only Christmas and Thanksgiving menu and very little in terms of decoration no matter the season or celebration.
