Nemorino’s
Hollowbrook had a local delivery pizza place nearby, that went out of business in 1985.
Nemorino’s opened in the area soon after. (Don’t ask the owner [Marco Rossi, Male, mid-50s] if there’s a connection between those events.)
It’s a common meeting-spot for younger people. Partly because Mr. Rossi absolutely refuses to consider delivery options. (“You want it? Come GET it!”, followed by a rant about laziness). Even if you’ve never hung out there (and you might have- he’s not fussy about people lingering in his place, so long as you’re not making trouble or interfering with business), you’ll eventually pick up a pizza from there, and the odds of running into classmates or peers are good.
It’s also traditionally (as “traditionally” as something two years old can be) considered a good place for a first date. Or at least (because of the ‘everyone drops by’ thing) for the first date where you want everyone to know you’re going out.
Décor: Nothing fancy- a fairly typical House of Pizza. (If it were tonier, it wouldn’t have its “living room feel”): Work area, counter (again, "You want it? Come GET it!"- he doesn't do table service unless there's literal medical need), dining area (booths, etc.).
Mister Rossi begrudgingly put a video game in the corner, but the volume’s down so ‘the noise doesn’t bother me’.
He has a small radio playing a local music station in the kitchen, but no “sound system” (“Waste of money- talk! Or bring a Walkman, or something!”).
Staff: You’d think, as it’s a “family sort of place”, he’d have family working there, but no. He hires mostly recent HS grads in their early 20s. There’s been a fair amount of turnover for two years, but he doesn’t seem to be THAT bad of a boss. (A bit cranky, at worst).
He doesn’t emphasize drinking at his place. (There are plenty of bars that serve 'bar pizza' if you insist on it.) He stocks simple wines and beer but doesn’t put up signage. And he’s not playing around with underage drinkers.
The food itself: Better than about 90% of similar places. "Real restaurant" levels of quality. There’s a notion that Mr Rossi could have opened a pricier place, if he wanted to.
(For instance, he once deduced where someone feeling homesick was from, and made them that area’s “local” style of pizza- a regional style he doesn’t usually do- to cheer them up”. He also does “Specials”.)
Weird Stuff: Mmmmaybe?
