| When this spell is cast, a greasy coating of slippery fat appears on a solid surface or an object. The spell can be cast on a floor, a stairway, or any such surface. If an area is targeted, it affects a 10-foot x 10-foot square. When cast upon a surface, the grease affects all creatures in the area. Those entering the area must successfully save vs. spell or slip and fall. Those who remain in the area must make a saving throw each round that they remain or slip and fall. The DM should adjust saving throws by circumstance; for example, a creature charging across a greased area might suffer a -4 penalty, while a creature carefully inching its way across might gain a +4 bonus. A creature that has fallen can get up only by making a successful saving throw; otherwise, it spends the round prone. When cast upon an object, the grease causes the item to be slippery and difficult to grasp. If the spell is cast upon a weapon, the wielder must make a successful saving throw vs. spell to avoid dropping it. A saving throw must also be made each round the weapon is used. If cast on an item that is not held (such as a rope or a saddle), it gains a slippery coating that causes it to be virtually impossible to hold or grasp without slipping—appropriate saving throws apply. Note that items on a creature receive the creature’s saving throw. The material component of the spell is a bit of pork rind or butter. | |||
