Resource Points

A kingdom’s economy is based on the sum of its citizens’ productive activity, represented by Resource Points which are determined by the roll of Resource Dice (see below). RP are spent to perform a wide variety of kingdom activities. Any RP not spent by the end of a kingdom turn convert to kingdom XP at a rate dependent on the kingdom’s size.

Resource Dice

Since luck and demand play a part in a kingdom’s resources at a given time, the exact total of RP a kingdom will have each turn varies. This variation is captured by rolling Resource Dice at the start of the kingdom turn. The size of the Resource Dice are determined by the kingdom size. A kingdom has a base number of Resource Dice equal to 4 + its kingdom level.

Deficit Spending

Whenever the kingdom would be forced to spend RP beyond what it has available, it incurs a debt to its people or to outside forces. This is represented by spending all available RP and then immediately increasing one Ruin of the PC’s choice.

Commodities

While Resource Points represent generalized wealth and productivity (such as coin and labor), Commodities represent significant stockpiles of particular goods: Food, Lumber, Luxuries, Ore, and Stone. Commodities are used to build structures in settlements, or to respond to certain kingdom events, although they can also be traded for RP at need.

Unless special storage improvements have been built in settlements, the kingdom is limited in its maximum Commodity storage by its size. Any amount of Commodities gathered in excess of the storage limit are lost at the end of the kingdom turn.

Food stockpiles are spent to pay for Consumption during the Upkeep phase of the kingdom turn, but also when faced with famines or other disasters, and to keep armies fed during times of war. Food is gathered via the Harvest Crops & Livestock, Go Fishing, and Hunt & Forage activities.
Lumber is used to build structures, and it is gathered from lumber camps built using Establish Work Site.
Luxuries are used to build certain specialized structures or are expended during certain encounters, generally those with high stakes or magical effects. Luxuries can be found during adventures, created via Craft Luxuries, or earned during certain kingdom events.
Ore is used to build structures. Ore is gathered from mines built by Establish Work Site.
Stone is used to build structures, and it is gathered from quarries built by Establish Work Site.
