CREDO
A credo is like a specific set of rules to live by. Every interesting character has some credo, be it a code of honor, sense of morality, strict religion, compulsive modus operandi, etc. Even the characters that balk at the concept of rules are following the 1 rule of never adhering to rules (as a rule) and such anarchic behavior would be their credo. Describe your character's credo as you see fit and give it a name such as "Don't Tread on Me", "Egalitarianism", "Eye for an Eye", "Equitable Justice", "Hero's Creed", "Honor Among Thieves", "Never Kill", etc.

SUCCESS AND FAILURE

A character can fulfill or defy their credo in minor, moderate, or major ways, as determined by the GM.

Each pivotal scene a character fulfills their credo, they gain 1 temporary surge for a minor fulfillment, 1 surge for a moderate fulfillment, or 1 XP for a major fulfillment. Fulfilling their credo multiple times during the same scene doesn't stack, but does allow them to get up to all 3 of these benefits.

Conversely, defying their credo at any point even outside pivotal scenes can cause a character to lose these benefits. If they lose a temporary surge while they have no temporary surges, they lose a surge instead. If they lose a surge while they have no surges, they lose an XP instead, possibly moving their current XP into a negative number.

Minor fulfillment would be risking time and resources while major would be risking life and limb. A minor fulfillment to a credo grants you +1 surge for each scene. For a major fulfillment, it's +1 XP and +1 surge per scene.
