Awareness

Creatures can perceive the world using their senses. Though modern science has categorized additional senses, most adult humans have five basic senses: sight, hearing, touch, taste, and smell. For the purposes of simplicity, taste and smell are combined into "olfactory" for the game. Most creatures also have these same senses.

SENSORY PRECISION
Each sense is either precise or imprecise. Adult humans have all senses as imprecise except vision, which is precise.

An imprecise sense allows you to detect the presence of things with a successful Perception roll and determine their direction with a critical success.

A precise sense allows you to detect the presence and direction of things with a successful Perception roll and pinpoint their exact location with a critical success.

SENSORY RANGE
Unless noted otherwise, Perception rolls suffer a cumulative -1 penalty per (10 + Wisdom) meters/yards away the target is from you.

Senses can be blocked by impairments such as visual senses being blocked by concealment or cover or auditory senses being blocked by soundproof barriers or olfactory senses being disabled by overwhelming odors.

The DC to notice an inanimate object that isn't hidden is typically DC3 + any modifiers it may have that offer it cover or camouflage. The DC to notice something moving, such as a living creature, is DC0 + modifiers if they are not attempting to hide. Circumstances may adjust this.

BLINDSENSE
Blindsense allows you to use an imprecise sense to automatically detect the presence of things as if it were a precise sense but not other benefits of precise senses. It also allows you to recognize things this way with the same detail that humans recognize faces. For example, Blindsense (Scent) not only allows you to detect the presence of creatures by scent it also allows you to recognize individuals by their scent as clearly as a human would recognize other humans by their face.

Blindsight improves an imprecise sense to a precise sense, allowing you to pinpoint creatures as well.
