Chance

A merchant vessel of the British East India Company plying the trade route between England and India.
The 'Chance' is a two masted schooner used to transport cargo and passengers.

Crew
The crew of the 'Chance' consists of 8 common sailors, double bunked in hammocks in the berth forward of the galley.  Chris, Craig, Winfred, Orkney,Philip Carstairs and 3 others

4 specialist crew members, Geert van de Bijl the steward, a cook, Bert the carpenter and a sailmaker bunked opposite the common sailors.

The 1st and 2nd Mate (Abraham Williams & Jonathon Edwards)are the only officers besides the captain and they are quartered opposite the galley with an extra hammock potentially for a passenger or extra officer.  At the beginning of the voyage, Mr Strauser elected to use this hammock.

The Captain's Cabin is a wreck, furniture and personal belongings have been thrown about the room by the impact of 'Chance' with the rocks.  There are several chests and cabinets along the walls containing the Captain's clothing, personal effects and valuables.  The weapons locker appears to undamaged, though the desk and a couple of chairs are now piled up against it.

Decks
The Quarter Deck at the rear of the ship houses the Captains cabin.

The Main Deck has passenger quarters below the Captains cabin, the open half deck in front of the passenger quarters.  The forecastle is where the helm of the ship is located.

The Berth Deck has the crew quarters and galley at the rear, a hold for livestock under the half deck with animal fodder, water and the ships anchor underneath the forecastle.

Two large water casks, eight bales of hay, four sacks of wheat, oats and other feed.  Nine smaller barrels of seed, apples and other grain.

The Cargo Hold contains all the ships supplies, tools and other cargo.

The Galley
Food stuffs in the galley consist mostly of salted, brined beef and pork as well as hardtack biscuits.  There are also small beer and water casks, a cask of vinegar, sacks of flour, peas, cheese and salt.  Bread, butter, oatmeal and suet can also be found among the ships food supplies.
