Sympathetic




Sympathetic effects can affect targets even if they aren't within range, even across star systems and planes. A sympathetic connection is all that's needed to affect the target, and simply being aware of their presence or existence is enough.

However, there are bonuses and penalties to the user's rolls and DCs against the subject based on how strong the connection is. Multiple circumstances of the same type don't stack, you merely take whichever is best if it is applicable.

Example:
If you had both a likeness of the subject and a piece of their body and used them both as a focus, you'd only get the +3 from using the body part as it would not stack with the +1 for a likeness because they're both focuses. However, if you're watching the subject through a scrying orb or security camera, the +2 for proximity would stack for a total of +5.
