Resistance

Innate, Selection

Cost: 1 XP/tier.

Selection: Choose an effect type such as acid, air, bleed, bludgeoning, cold, darkness, disease, earth, electricity, fire, light, piercing, poison, radiant, shadow, slashing, sonic, water, etc. Choosing a type outside this list requires GM approval.

Resistance is a creature's general ability to resist harm from a certain effect type. You gain a +(Tier x 2) innate bonus to armor rating and saving throws against the selected effect type. This boost to armor is not subject to armor-piercing or armor negating. If the effect has a tier lower than this ability's tier, you're entirely immune to it.

Example:
A level 10 fire dragon with 12 Armor Rating has tier 5 resistance against heat/fire effects. A wizard casts a tier 3 fireball at the dragon dealing 19 damage and an alchemist uses an tier 5 armor-negating flamethrower on the dragon dealing 14 damage.

The fire dragon has a +12 bonus to saving throws and Armor Rating against the attacks and treats the alchemist's attack as armor-negating, ignoring the dragon's normal armor rating of 10 but still subject to the +12 because the flamethrower is a fire effect. The dragon takes only 2 damage from the alchemist's attack due to having an effective Armor Rating of 12 against the 14 damage.

The fire dragon ignores the wizard's 19 damage entirely because their effect was tier 3, which is less than the fire dragon's resistance tier, making it entirely immune.
