Living Construct
Living constructs are artificial beings animated by magic or technology but possessing true life and self-awareness. They are not objects and are treated as living creatures for all effects unless otherwise noted.
This type costs 12 XP. A living construct creature gains the following:
- Treated as constructs by all magical effects, except for mind-affecting effects, which treat it as Humanoid, unless it has another one listed such as Beast or Cryptid.
- Immune to disease, poison, and sleep effects.
- Does not sleep but enters a sleep-like trance for 2 hours per day, which counts as 8 hours of rest for regaining spells and daily abilities (as if by ring of sustenance).
- Do not need to breathe and are immune to suffocation, vacuum exposure, and inhaled poisons.
- Are unaffected by most healing effects but healed in full by repair effects that normally repair objects, items, and constructs. Craft rolls appropriate for their materials are used to perform First Aid on them and treat them rather than Heal.
- Can be ressurected via effects that create constructs if enough material components are spent. For example, Animate Object cast on a living construct creature's corpse resurrects them as if by Raise Dead if enough material components were spent to cast Raise Dead. Casting normal resurrection effects on a living construct can also work but brings them back in an organic body as if by Reincarnation.
Artificial Material Vulnerability: A living construct is partially inorganic and can be affected by effects that target materials. Depending on its composition, it may be affected by spells and abilities such as heat metal, warp wood, rusting grasp, wood shape, and similar effects, as though it were made of the appropriate material. This does not make the creature an object but could create unique effects such as using heat metal on a metal creature even if they're not wearing metal or using warp wood to grapple or damage a creature made of wood. The effects should be limited to what spells of equivalent or lower level can do.
