Bonuses
BASE BONUSES
Your Base Attack Bonus, Base Fortitude save, Base Reflex save, Base Will save, and Caster Level for any magical effect you can create is equal to your total hit dice regardless of class or racial hit dice. Your class does give you proficiency with different armor, saves, shields, skills, spells, and weapons though. See Proficiency.
BONUS TYPES
The same type of bonus never stacks, you merely apply the highest. All bonus types are consolidated as follows:
PENALTIES
Penalties are also typed this way. Penalties from conditions are assumed to be innate unless one of the following is true:
- The condition specifically targets the mind or soul (such as being Confused or Compelled), in which case it's a competence penalty.
- The condition is created from outside physical forces hindering you (such as being Shackled or Slowed from being restrained), in which case it's a circumstance penalty (if imposed by a creature) or item penalty (if imposed by objects like bindings).
UNTYPED BONUSES
No untyped bonuses will be allowed in the game. However, you can assign a bonus type to your abilities. For example, if a feat gives you a +1 untyped bonus to attack rolls with certain weapons, you can change it to a competence bonus. Once you make this selection this cannot be changed unless you retrain the feat, spell, or feature that grants the bonus.
