MONASTIC MAGE
This archetype applies to the battle mage and war mage classes.
Requirements: Celestial, infernal, occult, or primal casting tradition.
Loses:
- 1st - Eldritch Armor
- 1st - Eldritch Shield
- 1st - Shield Proficiency
- 1st - Heavy Armor Proficiency (or medium if you dont have heavy or light if you have neither)
- 2nd - Augment
- 4th - Augment
- 6th - Augment
Gains:
- 1st - Lesser Eldritch Armor: This functions as Eldritch Armor except it only grants a +2 armor bonus and you're not treated as wearing armor while Eldritch Armor is active, so you have no Max Dex but it doesn't work in tandem with feats that apply to actual armor like Armor Focus. It still gains the enhancements from later levels.
- 1st - Canny Defense: You apply your casting modifier as a competence (insight) bonus to your Dodge DC (AC) as the feat of the same name. You can apply your casting modifier instead of Wisdom to the Stunning Fist feat and all other monk class features you gain (if any).
- 1st - Eldritch Dodge (Su): This functions as Eldritch Shield except that instead of conjuring a shield, you grant yourself a +2 circumstance (or dodge for PF1e) bonus to Dodge DC (AC) and a +10-foot increase to each of your existing base speeds for 1 round. This increases to +3/15ft at 4th level and +4/20ft at 6th level. This cannot be sustained beyond 1 round with a free hand like Eldritch Shield can. You cannot apply any feat or augment that requires an actual shield to your Eldritch Dodge such as Bubble Shield, Protective Armaments, Regenerating Armory, Shared Shield, or Towering Shield but can otherwise gain and apply other augments to your Eldritch Dodge in place of Eldritch Shield.
- 1st - Invocations (option adjustment): For the purposes of magical identification, your invocations count as ki powers and you detect as having a ki pool equal to your level normally, half your level if fatigued, one-quarter your level if exhausted, and 0 if unconscious. You can gain Monk ki powers as invocations with the effective spell level being equal to the ki point cost. Your effective monk level for these purposes is twice the highest level invocation you can cast.
- 2nd - You gain the Eldritch Martial Arts augment unless you don't have improved unarmed strike, then you gain it as a bonus feat instead.
- 4th - You gain the Eldritch Speed augment unless you don't have the Dodge feat, then you gain it as a bonus feat instead.
- You can select Empty Body, Evasion, Flawless Mind (requires Still Mind), Flurry of Blows (Bonus Attack), Improved Evasion (requires Evasion), Ki Strike (Magic), Quivering Palm (requires Stunning Fist + Eldritch Martial Arts), Purity of Body, Slowfall, Still Mind, Timeless Body, or Tongue of the Sun and Moon in place of an augment but no sooner than the level the Monk normally gains them. You can use your other augments to gain more of these abilities as well. Your effective monk level for these purposes is equal to double the number of augments you've used to gain these abilities (including those to gain this archetype) or your class level, whichever is lower.
- You can gain Perfect Self as an alternate capstone if you have at least 5 ki powers and at least 5 augments used to gain monk abilities.
