Incarnate

An incarnate is a creature that is treated as both mortal and immortal by all effects. Unlike most immortal spirits and mortal souls, their essence does not return or travel to a plane of existence that best matches them, but returns to the mortal realm to be reborn, usually in a body similar to their last life but not always. Incarnates grow up without their memories or powers from their past lives until something triggers those memories.

This functions much like someone who suppresses past traumas but suffers a relapse due to some sort of stimuli or situational exposure which triggers their traumatic memories. This awakes their memories and powers of whatever past life the memories was tied to. Once one is triggered, the others become progressively and exponentially easier to trigger, eventually causing the incarnate to regain most memories and powers of their past lives. Though rare, some incarnates can live an entire lifetime never regaining their past memories.

All incarnates have an innate ability to detect the presence of other incarnates that are nearby and to discern who is and who isn't an incarnate by sight and touch. This does not grant them the ability to discern who someone is, only that they are or aren't an incarnate.
