The Sturdy Sheath

The Sturdy Sheath is the oldest magazine in Greyhawk, founded by master swordsmith Grimens Durath more than 200 years ago, and passed down through his line to the current owner, Arpens Durath.

The Duraths are renowned as the greatest sword-makers in this part of the world. They use privately sourced metals, and their craftsmanship is unparalleled. Arpens, a young man of only 22 years, inherited the business from his father, Hamish, whose traveling party ventured into the wilderness a few years ago but never returned. His fate (or current whereabouts) is unknown.

Arpens is a somewhat reluctant shop keeper, since he never expected to inherit the job so soon. Not to mention the fact that he misses his father and wonders about him every day. Nonetheless, he is an incredibly gifted weaponsmith, just as all the Duraths before him.

The shop keeps a ready supply of a wide variety of weapons: swords of all types, plus axes, daggers, flails, hammers, maces, and the like. They do not carry range weapons however. For those you will have to visit Bullseye Bows or one of the other bowyers in town.

The shop will accommodate custom orders, for a price. These weapons are forged by Arpens' uncle, Jack Durath (known as "J.D..") His specialty is swords, especially the signature Durathian longsword, an exceptional blade made out of an iron-based alloy from the ancient mines of Old Ferrond.
