The Guiding Light

Proprietress:  Erica Drewmore

The guiding light is a two storied, whitewashed, windowless stucco building in the River District.

It is a temporary housing for women who have no place else to turn.  Admittance is from dusk until midnight, and all are awakened with the sunrise.  Stays are granted only by the proprietress. Women are allowed to stay no more than a week, and must be out of the building and trying to lead productive lives by 7 am.  All who stay are required to partake in morning chores (cleaning, cooking, laundry, etc), breakfast, and morning sermon.  Women who stay are asked to donate if they can or send something later when their station improves.

On the first floor is a kitchen, a pantry, a large common room with two rows of trestle tables, and a private room/office belonging to the owner.  On the back wall is a staircase leading to the second floor.  The second floor is a common room with forty neatly arranged cots.  There is a staircase leading up to a heavy roof hatch.  On the roof are 4 large wash bins, numerous clotheslines, and a large cistern for catching rainwater.

The proprietress does not allow men within the building.
