River Road, 5 Miles from Greyhawk

The Green Kraken may seem like an odd name for an inn located far from the sea, but as it turns out, there's a tale behind that.

When the Rhenn-folk arrived in the Flanaess around 150 CY, they brought with them a number of strange beliefs. One involved the legend of the Kraken, the most fearsome of all sea creatures. By the year 230 CY, the Rhenn had established a successful river trade business, including the Selintan route that connects Nyr Dyv to the Wooly Bay.

Over time, the legend of the Kraken evolved, and the Rhenn came to believe that the creature roamed the waters of Nyr Dyv. Further, that a day would come, when the creature would decide to navigate the waters of the Selintan and make its way to the walls of Greyhawk, where it would then rise up and bring destruction upon the town.

The Green Kraken Tavern honors this legend by its name and the banner hanging above its door: a green silhouette of a hideous squid-like creature with a gaping maw and countless tentacles, set against an all-white background. It is hoped, that if the Kraken ever comes, it might spare the inn and the people inside, for having paid such respect.

Aside from the story behind it, the inn is rather ordinary. The entrance is a wooden double door that opens up into a large dining hall that contains 10 tables of various sizes, as well as a long bar with 10 stools. At the far end of the room there is a fireplace with a large stone hearth.

There is a door that connects the bar to the kitchen, and there is a storage shed out back for dry goods. Near the entrance there is a trap door that leads to the cellar, with additional supplies like kegs of beer, barrels of wine, cured meats, and wheels of cheese. There is also a staircase that leads to the second floor, where 10 guest rooms are located, each of equal size.

There are two other structures on the property (not shown on the illustration). One is a barn with enough room to house 10 horses. The other is the staff quarters.

The owner of the inn is an elderly gentleman named Twain. He fancies himself a story-teller and is more than happy to regale guests with the story of the Kraken and other legends of the Rhenn-folk.

Staff members include Banson, the burly bartender, Harlanna, the hospitable hostess, and a cheerful young lad named Steave, who serves as the stable boy.
