The Crusty Toad Pub
The Crusty Toad is located away from the main streets, tucked away in a winding labyrinth of buildings. The exterior wooden structure seems to eschew straight lines and right angles and almost slumps, giving the impression of being one stiff wind away from collapsing.
Approaching from the west (assuming North is up) side of the building, there are a half-dozen windows and a splotched green door. A large green and brown toad hangs above the doorway. The toad is covered with oddly-colored patches of something indistinguishable.
The front door opens into a large room with a bar ahead, complete with half-a-dozen bar stools, and a dozen or so small round tables to the right, scattered around haphazardly. Behind the bar there is a door to the kitchen and a large pantry. There are two private rooms occupying the southern edge of the building. The larger one in the south east is a private banquet room. The smaller one in the center has a small table for card games. Although the patrons at a couple of the tables in the main room are often playing cards, this last room is for more serious gamblers. There is also a small stage on the west wall of the building.
The Crusty Toad is open for lunch, dinner, and drinking, closing its door around 2AM. Each day's menu consists of a roast, fresh bread from a local bakery, an assortment of vegetables, a soup, and two or three cheeses. The meals are of middling quality. There is also a selection of alcohol, including mead, ale, beer, red wine, and hard spirits.
The proprietor is a man named Simon Crabtree, a former sergeant in the Greyhawk battalion who settled in the area about 5 years ago. He has several visible scars and is missing two fingers on his left hand. He always carries a mace and does not suffer fools.
The bartender is named Balfour. He is a rather tall, shaggy individual but friendly enough and good with drink orders. Two barmaids cover the main room, a human brunette named Chastity, and a light-haired half-elf named Jasmine. They are rumored to provide extra services out back. The dealer in the card room is a sharp-eyed elf named Damascus. The cook is Simon's wife, Helen, a solid woman with dark hair. Her assistant is a small half-orc named Gunther.
The main room and bar tend to be loud with a rowdy crowd of locals, mainly laborers. However, there is usually a mix of races. The floors creak and the tables wobble and everything looks like it could probably use a deep cleaning. Candles light the tables and torches give the room some light but it is still smoky and a bit dim.
