STABLES & CORRAL

Set on the quieter east side of town, just across from the Almedas Saloon, "Cal's Stables & Corral" is a square, low-roofed barn of weathered pine boards and corrugated tin. The scent of hay, horses, and old leather hangs thick in the air, mingling with the ever-present dust that drifts in from the street. Lanterns hang from the rafters, keeping the place lit through the long winter nights — the doors never close, no matter the hour.

The proprietor, Calvin Kleiner, is a lean, slow-moving man with a perpetual chew tucked in his cheek and a knack for remembering every horse that passes through his doors (or so he claims!). For fifty cents a day, he’ll stable a horse, see it fed and brushed, and keep an eye on the tack. Those with less coin can rent space in the open corral out back, where a few horses usually graze lazily in the sparse grass near the fence line.
