The Grid (or grid) is an enigmatic Valtian creation that covers the entirety of Lokren and parts of northern Lantaren. The grid consists of a number of enormous structures known now only as greathalls that appear to be made entirely out of a strange sort of metal. All of the greathalls in the empire are linked by long lines of strange monuments made of a different type of shining metal to the greathalls, but like the halls, they never seem to tarnish or corrode and are apparently all but impossible to damage. The monuments form long sweeping lines, with each monument set several hundred yards from those on either side of it, that extend for dozens or hundreds of miles from one greathall to the next. These oddities have dotted the landscape since before the creation of Lokren and most people are used to their presence, with many major Lokrenian towns and cities arising in the shadow of a greathall.

It is said that there are scholars who understand the function and purpose of the grid, as well as how it might have worked, for its construction seems to be based on magical theory. Some say that the Valtians used the monuments to transmit magical energies across the land, though it is unknown for what purpose. However, it is believed that nobody has ever attempted to reactivate the grid, though the prevailing theory regarding the Red Mist is that it was caused by a botched attempt to do exactly that. There is little to prove this, though, and it remains mere speculation.
