Supermodel Holly Cooks bungee jumping off the Harmon Building… It would be an unforgettable event and an indelible pop culture image, or at least it certainly would have been if things had gone according to plan…
Once the media circus surrounding the jump was set up, Ms. Cooks made the jump, plummeted down, and when her cord had stretched to the limit - dangling her no more than fifteen feet above the sidewalk - she instantly disappeared without a trace.
An associate of Ms. Cooks came to ask the heroes to investigate. The heroes found no evidence of interference or trickery, but some of the more scientific of the heroes discovered extra-dimensional energy at the location of the jump. Once this, and other clues were followed, the heroes discovered that Holly Cooks liked to hang out with supervillains, and didn't keep boyfriends for long.
In another case, a chunk of 'The Vault', an elite safe deposit box facility, vanished. The sciencey heroes discovered the same dimensional radiation at this location as was discovered where Holly Cooks disappeared. Using sophisticated detectors, they tracked it to its source. The source was an uncharted island off the coast. The Refuseniks, a group of Russian supervillain mobsters, had created the island (named Aeaea).
Surveilling the island showed Holly Cooks still around. When the heroes stormed the island, The Refuseniks fought back but were defeated. Holly Cooks had been changed by passing through the 'dimensional teleporter', and was now a supervillain in her own right. She escaped and is still at large.
