Fifth Age - Hell on Urthe: Tal'Baed'iear - The City of the Dead

Hidden well within the tree line of the dry and twisted trunks that lie South and West of Talhamnoduin, the party travelled through the darkness, following the Oroduin river to where it joins the foetid Saura'sira and thence to the ocean's mouth.

As he regained reason, Tanath Bek began to question the purpose of the quest to Tal'Baed'iear, though not too closely for Teagan's deception still held and she was able to put him off for the two days it took to reach the City of the Dead.

Entering via the Charnel Gate whose portals of wood and iron were blackened and broken, but still hanging, the party picked their way down debris-strewn cobbles, the Dark Priest using his Talisman to ward them from the predations of the Breathless Ones.

But that Talisman was shattered by Ceridget, a vampyre , leaving the party at the mercy of a city full of undead.  Surprisingly Ceridget chose to betray his Lich masters chafing at his confinement within the walls of Tal'Baed'iear and struck a bargain that Dyavaen would free him from the city in return for his protection and help.  True to his word, the vampire Ceridget guided the party to The Lichway beneath the city.

In those dark passages the party lost several companions.  Liesaya, the Elven sorcerer who bore Saffaris' staff, gifted to her by the surviving Daughters was possessed, and before she fled, she slew Teagan, Luthien and Amherghin (who later rose as a Ghuul and died a second time).  Tanath Bek too fell, torn to shreds by a horde of vermin.

But Hamin, Brugar, Yetta,  Dyavaen and Alasha'an won through, defeating a bone giant and broke the third portal to release the god held captive within: Seeker (the ancient god of light, that the party had previously vanquished when they travelled to an earlier Age).

Seeker departed, leaving further destruction in his passage, vowing vengeance upon the Dark Gods who bound him.  Following the burned and blackened path he left in his wake the party found the Charnel Gate no more .  With the gates gone, the undead, including Ceridget were able to leave, though in the aftermath of the party's success, the sun had banished the mists, it's light forestalling all save the vampire who took to the skies, plotting evil deeds.

Wishing to be far away when night fell and Tal'Baed'iear disgorged the thousands of undead within, the party turned back to Talhamnoduin.
