Boons
Boons are special blessings or items that grant you bonuses to powers or specialties. If a boon grants you ranks in a power or specialty you already have, it stacks. Boons are not limited to your normal maximum ranks. GMs grant boons based on the story but they can be lost just as easily. GMs can also set restrictions and requirements to keep or activate a boon. Item-based boons typically require you to actively wield and activate the item.
Perks
Perks are conditional boons granted to you by the GM that are often stronger than regular boons. However, perks have stipulations and conditions attached that must be met such as getting a Wealth ability but only while you're in good standing with a wealthy friend or getting a special Status with a certain city, but only while you maintain a good reputation in that city and so on and so forth. Perks can also be items which can simply be lost, stolen, or broken such as a magic sword you found or advanced technology given to you by an alien friend.
