Marian Enclave
The Marian Enclave is a humanitarian organization, which formed around the marooned survivors of a Swedish mercy ship that had visited Gdansk in 1999. The ship struck a naval mine near the mouth of the harbor, settling in shallow water. Since then, the group have established a functioning hospital within the massive St. Marys church. The original staff of medical professionals and disaster relief experts, and also ship's crew, are now further supported by locally recruited specialists, clergy, and volunteers. In addition to providing medical services, the Marians assist community groups with providing clean water, as well as various reconstruction projects (work-to-eat programs). Although militarily weak, this faction is strongly supported by the general population. And due to the importance of the hospital they hold great influence over all of Gdansk's factions. Currently however, the Leopold Okulicki Detachment are the only armed faction directly associated with the Marian Enclave.
The Marian faction is coincidentally led by Ukrainian doctor Mary Tymoshenko. The similarity in her given name and that of the city's premier church, and perhaps Biblical connotations too, have all helped foster a growing cult-like image of the group. Many see Tymoshenko's presence in Gdansk as a sort of saint or blessing.
