Zone
A zone is an area in the game representing a small radius where a skirmish between combatants can take place. For most scenes, character zones are used. A creature that attempts to move between zones makes a roll and can move a number of zones equal to the number of successes with an action. If a zone has obstacles, it counts as a number of zones equal to it's obstacle rating (by default all zones are 1). Creatures can make melee attacks only against targets within the same zone, short-range attacks against targets in the same zone or an adjacent one, medium-range attacks up to 2 zones away, and long-range attacks up to 3 zones away. You can make ranged attacks at up to twice the normal range but suffer a -2 penalty for doing so.
Character zones are roughly about 10 yards or meters in radius each.
Planetary zones are 1 km (~1/2 mile) and are used for longer exploration scenes or travel montages.
Stellar zones are even larger than planetary at 1,000 km and are used for small scale space exploration.
Interstellar zones are even larger than stellar at 10 au and are used for larger scale space exploration.
