Treasure




A treasure is something a character holds dear. It's not necessarily an expensive item adorned with gold, but could be knowledge or a secret they keep closely guarded, a reputation they work hard to maintain, or a person they're close to and cherish above their other friends and family.

Whenever a character's treasure is threatened, they are compelled to protect it, even resorting to greater danger, violence, or cost than they normally would for similar people, objects, or information. A character must successfully fend off attempts to harm or expose their treasure and prioritize protecting their treasure over their aspirations, credos, and other obligations. If they willingly allow any significant harm or exposure come to their treasure, they lose a surge and all their temporary surges (if any). If the harm is permanent or irrevocable (such as exposing a secret to a large crowd, killing the NPC who was the treasure, or violating their reputation so egregiously it reshapes how the entire world will see them forever), they lose all their surges and suffer a breaking point.
