Mikromelo (IPA: /mɪˈkɹɒmələʊ/) is the capital and largest settlement of Siladent Forest. It is the seat of the duke.

History

Mikromelo was once a small trading-post within the broad Siladent Forest. Trappers and hunters would gather here to sell furs and meat. Over the centuries, the trading-post has grown into an important walled city, though not without challenges. Mikromelo has been at the centre of many conflicts and bloody wars over the years, for the Ardryn exist in large numbers in the forest and mountain passes further north and have frequently taken exception to Lokrenian annexation of their ancestral lands. Even today, the Ardryn in Siladent are extremely restive compared to other parts of the empire, with raids and ambushes a common occurrence in the province.

In 105 AD when local fiefdoms which owed fealty to Mikromelo briefly seceded from the empire, leading to the civil war known as the Barons' Revolt, Mikromelo remained loyal to the Crown, ordering the seditious barons to disband their army. Duke Vyncent held aloof from the subsequent fighting, sealing the gates of Mikromelo and aiding neither the barons nor the king. This careful poise of neutrality is believed to have been a major factor in the barons' decision to crown the duke's son after the king's death.

Recent events

Survivors from Mevron believe that the Red Mist may have had its origins at Mikromelo's greathall, for the building's exterior shows significant evidence of energy-damage, as though it has been "struck by lightning any hundreds of times". Despite this, the building does appear to be irrevocably damaged, more discoloured and blackened, as with soot from a fire. There is some evidence to suggest that the building will eventually look exactly as it had before and that the strange damage to the exterior is only temporary. Certainly there is no obvious deformation of any part of the structure and the effect on the greathall may be entirely superficial.
