Medupesburg was the first trial for a large-scale settlement of the illuminated side of Proxima. As the Green Movement gained traction because of the resistance in Kimon Fields, a physicist by the name of Edouard Doyoyo came up with the idea for a conversion field to negate the adverse effects of Proxima Centauri B's flare star.
Thanks to private funding from SDX, a heavy industries company from the Moon, the project was completed in early 2026.
Colonists soon flocked to the new "city of light", hoping to escape the dark and over-industrialized side of Proxima ; tragedy struck in 2031 with a critical failure of the satellite network, resulting in a series of explosions in orbit and the violent irradiation of the area surrounding Medupesburg.
Few people escaped that horrible event, and the terraformation of Proxima was pushed back decades.
Nowadays, the dry husk of a city remains, open-air burial site for so many, yet the spirit of Proxima remains unbroken.
