Way Back // Back

Something which seems obvious in the Real World, all knowledge is valuable and therefore should be harder to get, isn't more than minimally true - according to RAW. Where the use of a knowledge might allow any player to instantly understand some base truth of reality. Meaning for the cost of a few skill points and a good roll, a player can be more omnipotent than with the use of an 8th level divination spell. (talk about conflicting messages!!).

SO in an effort to provide power BACK to the skill system... I'm elevating the worth of the skill 'knowledge' to mean something more specific in campaign.
And including a broadly based Profession skill to be more than merely a way to make money in mundane fashion. Most of the things anyone 'knows' about the world can be boiled down to the types of jobs they've held and who they've met along the way.   No longer will knowledgeable expertise be encapsulated entirely by 9 SuperBroad skills, campaign specifics knowledge will govern how information is granted and disseminated into three main groups covering ALL skills.

Fundamental, Expert, and Prestige SKILLS.

As the skill 'Profession' has a broad spectrum of associated minor lores... they will be used to supplement Major Academic interests. In a Sword and Sorcery campaign, this means that there are professional skills that support the investigation and creation of magic items. The people that have access to these professional skills have valuable information but STILL lack the extremely specific knowledge that drives the project.  To underline the essential difference between the new 'Knowledge' skill definition and some need for scholarly pursuits, I'm introducing a vastly more baseline educated lore called "General Academics" - (which might be compared to a 'Bachelors Degree' vs and Expert's, Master Degree).

Expert Knowledge is used for very specific and advanced tangents of general knowledge.
