Fifth Age - Hell on Urthe: Taurenbaraun

Escaping her pampered past and the deaths of her parents and siblings, Lieseya travelled north to join her uncle Dyavaen and the band of raiders he ministered to, her grief and loss transforming the young woman from the selfish creature she was to a person who was both brave and caring.

Even as her mystical powers blossomed, she embraced the danger of this new life, the constant battles against the Dark Elves, the loss of comrades, finding some measure of peace in the small victories.

But that peace was shattered by the arrival of the Hollow Man. A stranger, an Elf, newly arrived at the latest camp, with naught but the bleakness of terrible loss in his eyes.

Amald was the name he gave, a messenger, charged to bring Lieseya to the Daughters hidden within Taurenbaraun, there to take up a mysterious burden, last bourne by one dear to him, now dead.

That the Daughters yet survived was a revelation, and reason enough to seek them out. And so Lieseya and her uncle joined the stranger on that journey.

After days of travel, the small group reached the edge of Taurenbaraun. With the ears of his charges stoppered and their eyes wrapped about with linen, Amald guided the pair through the unseen tangle of wasted trees and the unheard cries of the hungry ghosts who dwelt there.

At last hearing and vision were restored and Lieseya and Dyavaen found the dead woods now at their backs, and before them a living, vibrant forest.

Two Daughters greeted them on the verge of that wonderment, welcoming his charges but refusing Amald entrance.

In the glade the Daughters called home, Lieseya met the ailing Maurumina, a seeress gifted (or cursed) with the Sight who was consumed by what she Saw:

    Light-bringer
    Dark-eyed
    Shining-soul
    Woe betide

    Fey-marked
    Oaken-heart
    Fey-bane
    End and start

    Staff of Life
    Spring's call
    Save the Urthe
    Save us all

Shortly after their arrival, Maurumina died, but not before she Saw that Oaken-heart would soon be revealed.

And sure enough, hard upon her death, the party arrived in the glade, guided safely through the dead forest by the power of Saffaris’ staff, which they returned to the Daughters who, guided by what Maurumina has Seen, in turn bequeathed it to Lieseya.

As the various groups conversed, Amald was revealed as Saffaris’ father and son of the Dark Savant, who so recently guided Yetta from the Grey Wastes to be reunited with Hamin. Though none knew Amald’s reasons and the Daughters distrusted his manipulations, it was believed that he opposed the Dark Gods, and indeed might be one of those named as the "Pale Ones" in the Prophecy (the second of whom the Daughters suggested was the Dragon-lord K'rin'en'a).

Those of the Fourth Age were appalled at what the Daughters had become, but managed to instill some fire within them and leadership of the group passed to one with more steel in her, named Halera.

With Lieseya and Dyavaen joining them in their quest, the party resolved to return to Talhamnoduin, there to find a Dark Priest that they could charm or trick into helping them gain entry to the city of the dead, Tal'Baed'iear, where they believed the next Portal would be found.
