Fifth Age - Hell on Urthe: Seeking the White Wyrm's Lair

A long winding stair led up to the top of the cliffs of Ice Hold and the frozen lands beyond. Guided by two Elven brothers, Galantir and Galeryn, and wrapped in warm furs, the party set out into the swirling snows seeking a nomadic group of Wild Men known to be hunting in the area.

On the second day the party stumbled into the middle of the hunt, finding themselves trapped in a steep-sided gully with an Uinrandor, a great land-whale some fifty feet long, at their backs. As the beast slowed, hampered by the narrow channel into which it had been driven, the party made their stand, attacking the creature from the fore even as the hunters closed upon it from the rear.

Amhairghin, Brugar, Luthien and the two guides vanished beneath the Uinrandor's bulk as it crashed down upon them. Teagan and Melzakre managed to pull Amhairghin and Luthien free, though the Songstress was mortally wounded. Alasha'an, Hamin and Viemon joined with the Wild Men and with many blows of blade and spear, the land-whale was slain.

Hamin in particular earned the respect of the hunters, not least for the scars he bears, but it was Saffaris and moreso Luthien that astounded them as the Daughter called upon the Urthe Mother to restore life to the Songstress's broken and bloodied body. With the help of the Wild Men, Brugar and both guides were freed from beneath the beast's corpse, for the most part unscathed

With an Elf from Ice Hold that accompanied the Wild Men serving as translator, the party accepted an invitation to a feast at their encampment, while Brugar and Alasha'an remained behind to assist with the butchering of the Uinrandor.

At the camp, a collection of shelters formed from skins stretched over bone supports, insulated by the falling snows, the party met with the tribe's Speaker, an old blind man and other Elders, watching over the ceremonies and rituals associated with the feast that was being prepared, Brugar and Alasha'an arriving just as the food was served.

The food was rough fare indeed, but the party's participation in the hunt, their rites and the sharing of their table found favour with the Wild Men who agreed to assist them in their search. Made honorary members of the tribe, the Speaker was able to tell them, through the translator, of matters which would not be discussed with outsiders, of the 'graveyard of the Uinrandor', seven days away, 'upon which the Wyrm breathes unceasingly'.

The following morning, the shelters were dismantled and packed onto sleds as the Wild Men and the party set out for the graveyard.
