No Elf has ever died of old age: at a certain point in their lives, a Grey or High Elf will leave their family and kin and put out to sea to seek out the Blessed Isle. And if they should die before their time, then it is the duty of their friends to return their body to the waves. Wood Elves also feel the call: for them it is a summons to the depths of the forest where their spirits co-mingle with the trees. And if they perish away from the forest, their kin will recover the body and bury them in the forest, and come spring a new tree will take root on the site of the grave.

Elf - Gray

Appearance
Gray Elves are tall, willowy figures, with tanned skin, deep blue to grey eyes and hair of white, grey or silver.

Outlook - Fourth Age
Gray Elves are the most common of the elven breed. They are fond of travel, and in seeking out far horizons, they have broadened their minds and lost the aloofness of their more serious minded kin, though they share their love of all the wonders of nature. They have sharp eyes and are quick and alert with a clever sense of humour.

Outlook - Fifth Age (Dark Gods Ascendant)
Tolerated by the Dark Elves that now rule most of the Urthe, the Grey Elves yet tread warily, masking their true feelings with jests. Many work in secret to undermine the oppressors, and believe that the confrontational approach of their cousins will only bring about ruin.

Game Notes
Gray Elves have all the Elven racial traits from the Player's Handbook except as follows:

Elf - High

Appearance
High Elves are tall and thin, though well-muscled. Their hair is light brown, blond or even golden; their eyes are amber to violet, and they have fair complexions.

Outlook - Fourth Age
High Elves are the rarest of all the Elves, only recently venturing forth from their homes in tranquil forest glades. Noble and majestic, guardians of the Secret Arts of Magic and skilled warriors, they are the symbols of all that is right and true in the world. To outsiders, they seem cold and aloof but this is simply because their long isolation has left them unversed in the ways of men.

Outlook - Fifth Age (Dark Gods Ascendant)
Ironically, their Dark cousins' victory has spurred the once aloof High Elves to actively involve themselves in the affairs of the Urthe, championing the resistance against the Darkness. While they favour a more direct approach than their Wood Elven bretheren, they have naught but disdain for the Grey Elves machinations.

Game Notes
High Elves have all the Elven racial traits from the Player's Handbook except as follows:

Elf - Wood

Appearance
Wood Elves are slender, though shorter than their kin, with brown to black hair, eyes of light brown, green or hazel and pale skin that goes berry brown as it tans.

Outlook - Fourth Age
Wood Elves are serious and reserved, yet kind and gentle, their lives devoted to the care of the forests and their creatures. Though once they shunned the company of others, after the War they accepted that the needs of the land far outweighed their desire for solitude, and they now roam the Urthe, tending Her wounds, and seeking to prevent the like from happening again. Others are judged by their deeds, not their words and while they ask for naught themselves, those who show respect for the land are honoured accordingly.

Outlook - Fifth Age (Dark Gods Ascendant)
Angered beyond measure at the harm done to their beloved forests, the Elves of the Woods diligently guard what remains, slaying any who enter their realms and sallying forth to harrass the foe whenever the opportunity arises. Though prefering more subtle means than those employed by their High Elven kin, they gladly assist and share their dim views of the Gray Elves methods.
