SWI

The Salem Witches' Institute is an American wizarding boarding school teaching the magical arts, located near Salem, Massachusetts. The precise location of the school can never be uncovered because, like many other magic schools, has been made Unplottable.

S.W.I. is considered to be one of the best magical institutions in the Wizarding world, similar to schools like Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry and Beauxbatons Academy of Magic. Teaching students from North America, children with magical abilities are enrolled at birth and their acceptance is confirmed at age thirteen by Owl post or muggle letter.

SWI was founded in 1702 by survivors of the Salem witch trials in order to give new witches and wizards a safe place to practice their magic without fear of persecution as was common in that time period. And they were successful, the school has been open since 1702 and has produced many generations of excellent witches and wizards. The four covens were named in honor of four victims who showed immense strength and suffering during the trials, these were: Sarah Goode, John Proctor, Bridget Bishop, and Giles Corey.

The student body consists of 1000 witches and wizards, ranging in age from 13-19 and are evenly distributed over four covens.
