In the large but fairly quiet New England town of Moorhaven, there are three high-schools.

Moorhaven Highschool is the largest and least interesting of the three. It's also the only one you can find proper directions for on Google maps.

Baneberry Academy is the Atlantic Northeast's preeminent boarding and preparatory school for monsters. The school itself is protected by powerful illusions and warding magic, and with it's connections to some of the oldest families in all the world it's very difficult to even know it exists if you don't meet the enrollment requirements. Monster here refers to the cultural norm of viewing humans as about as meaningful as cattle, with many students routinely feeding in some way on humans. It is a fairly normal highschool except all the students are some species of monster. Culturally it's akin to various highschool dramas with cliques and social maneuvering. Clubs and people going through puberty induced identity crises, worrying about who will be elected prom queen.

Rainsford Institute is the world's preeminent school for monster hunters. They are viewed as eccentric generally but if the world knew some of the things their students had done they're either lock them up or thank them for saving the world. Rainsford Institute is known for madness. Techniques vary quite a bit from martial arts, to mad science, to metaphysics. Students are encouraged to keep a low profile so the villagers don't burn down the Institute a third time. Despite the strict human only policy the resources the school has attracts some pretty crazy humans. Culturally it's akin to various shounen animes. Most students care more about who wins the annual anything goes martial arts competition rather than prom queen.
