War. War never changes.

The Romans waged war to gather slaves and wealth. Spain built an empire from its lust for gold and territory. Hitler shaped a battered Germany into an economic superpower.

But war never changes.

In the year 2077, after millennia of armed conflict, the destructive nature of man could sustain itself no longer. The world was plunged into an abyss of nuclear fire and radiation.

A few were able to reach the relative safety of the large underground Vaults. Your family was part of that group that entered Vault 38. Imprisoned safely behind the large Vault door, under a mountain of stone, generations have lived without knowledge of the outside world, shepherded by an incredibly advanced supercomputer.

Nearly two hundred years after the vault was sealed, catastrophe has come to Vault 38; their shepherd, the ZAX artificial intelligence they call the Overseer, is dying. Two hundred years of constant processing has taxed the computer’s neural network to the breaking point.

In the final stages of a degrading mental state, the Overseer has tasked you with retrieving replacements for its corrupted processors. The neural network processors for a ZAX unit are beyond rare, but if you should fail, the Overseer will be lost forever.
