War. War never changes.
The end of the world occurred pretty much as we had expected. The tension between the major superpowers had been gradually escalating since the end of the Second World War, and, by the third decade of the new millennium, global pressure had risen to the breaking point.
On July 11th, 2017, a simple system error on a NORAD computer system led to a war that bathed the world in nuclear fire. American nuclear missiles decimated Russia, but Russia was not to die alone. They were able to fire their own missiles while the American arsenal was still in the air. Seeing the end of days on the horizon, the remaining nuclear-capable nations took this final opportunity to settle old debts.
However, as the world burned, a secret society waited, biding their time to serve the purpose for which they existed.
In 1983, a mysterious man by the name of Bruce Edward Morrow, origin unknown, gathered nine of the United States’ leading industrialists into an organization known as the Council of Tomorrow. This organization brought forth the concept of the Morrow Project; an ambitious plan to cryogenically freeze special teams of carefully selected individuals and equipment and store them away in secret underground vaults to aid in the reconstruction of the U.S. after nuclear war.
For many years the Project gathered people and equipment that would suit their purposes. Then, in 2014, the Project implemented its plan. They secreted away their teams of frozen heroes, and settled in to occupy Prime Base, the only Morrow Project base not to be frozen with the others. They would stand a long vigil, to wait out the war and wake the scattered teams three years after the last of the bombs fell.
Four years later, the war the Council had predicted occurred, and the Project personnel slept as the world ended above them. It would be only a few short years before the wake-up call from Prime Base woke them to begin rebuilding the world.
But the wake-up call never came.
