Ranald is the god of tricksters, luck and thieves. His worship is condemned by the clergy of the mainstream gods, and most of the powerful in the Empire look down upon worship of Ranald. In much of the Empire, open worship is forbidden.

Nonetheless, he is extraordinarily popular among the common man. Anyone who feels cheated or downtrodden, or who feels they need some luck, will often make a private prayer and offering to Ranald. Some wealthy merchants will also worship him in secret, thanking him for the good luck that brought them to their position, and entreating him not to take it away.

There is no organised clergy, but in most big cities merchants know where they can find a priest of Ranald. They wear ordinary clothes, but may signal their allegiance to those in the know with subtle uses of an X symbol on their clothing or jewellery.

The symbol of Ranald is a hand with two fingers crossed. Due to persecution of the church, it's rarely seen in public.
