Character Generation
- Each player may create one magus, one companion, and as many grogs as they feel they can manage. Mythic Companions and other Gifted magicians take a magus slot.
- Canonical simple character generation rules are used.
- No starting character may have Might.
-
Magi should be created at gauntlet using only the core book, Apprentices, Grogs, their section of their Houses of Hermes book, and up to one theme (so it may be more than one thing, but it must be clearly focused) from another book. For ex Miscellanea, if your tradition isn't covered in Houses of Hermes: Societates, then you can use your theme to cover the tradition, removed that section of Houses of Hermes: Societates from your allowed books, and choose one Virtue or Flaw from somewhere else.
- All magi may select a Certamen school, as covered in Houses of Hermes: True Lineages, separately from the above point.
- After creating your magus at gauntlet, you may choose to make your magus up to three years out of gauntlet using a slight variant of the core rules: you won't get any vis for free, and you won't automatically get Warping Points. No finding of Familiars nor Initiations may happen. You can use vis from a Personal Vis Source, but you cannot save it up. Your choice of N ≤ 3 years determines the amount of supplies you may bring with you. 0 gives you 50 p.v.f., 1 gives you 40 p.v.f, 2 gives you 25 p.v.f., and 3 gives you 10 p.v.f.
- When using p.v.f. for supplies to bring, note that these are supplies, as the covenants do not yet exist. So no paying for a lab, for example. You may only buy books of any type (including casting tablets), items, vis (not sources), and money with these BP. Use the Hermetic price list when spending this. For vis, assume you are not spending the type you want, so purchase the desired pawns using that formula as well.
- Custom spells are encouraged.
-
Companions and grogs should be created using only the core book, Apprentices, Grogs, and up to one theme from another book. Non-Gifted hedge magi and the equivalent from other realms (e.g. Faerie Wizard) are not allowed; if you really want one, either make a Mythic Companion or a Gifted magician of that other tradition within ex Miscellanea.
- You may start with reasonable items for your station, regardless of it being printed in a book or not, but nothing of any sort of exceptional quality.
- Note that the covenant will not begin with any servants who are not written up as grogs you bring with you, though they may be acquired later.
