His master was injured and they managed to make it this far before he fell ill and died from his wounds.... Chang promised his master to return his body back east to his family.... He's managed to gather enough money from selling what little was left them to buy a coffin and to store the old man at the undertakers in a temporary grave but needs to raise the money for the train fair back east for him and his masters body..... The cattle drive will pay enough for him to do that and honour his masters dying wishes
